Erectile dysfunction (ED) happens when a man has ongoing problems getting and keeping an erection. Without treatment, ED can make sex difficult or impossible. The problem is reported by 1 in 5 men, and that number gets higher with age and now common among many men in Nigeria.

At local aphrodisaic marts that litter busstops and garages in Lagos and major cities in nigeria, Men are enticed to purchase ‘syrups or concoctions that will make them become men again. “The issue with many of us border on psychological trauma and the principal thing “money in the pocket”, says Akinlade a father of 2 and staff in one of the ministries in Lagos state, who said he has lost interest in sex. “I just dey”.

“One is just waiting” says a Ikenna, 32-year old unemployed graduate of Business Administration, who hustles for customers at the busy computer village, ‘ waiting for what? Waiting for one’s turn now – to die or blow, and if you don’t blow, you keep waiting in line, and if you wait too long and you don’t get tired, good for you, otherwise, you make the final decision”.

But the question was do you experience ED, Ikenna?
‘Yes, that’s the question, but the question should have been ‘ Will I experience it with a Million naira alert in my bank account?”

But is ED really, more of a psyclogical issue than medical? Experts say stress, depression, low self-esteem, and performance anxiety can short-circuit the process that leads to an erection. These factors can also make the problem worse if your ED stems from a physical problem.
